WheelVerdict scores sim racing hardware – wheel bases, wheels, pedals, shifters, handbrakes, rigs – and tells you which ones are worth your money.
There are already people doing this well. What is missing is a site that is straight with you about where its judgments come from.
The problem with sim racing reviews
A direct drive wheel base costs more than a used car did twenty years ago. A full rig can run past $5,000. These are real purchases, and most people make them once every few years.
Yet a lot of what you read is written by someone who has never touched the product, in the voice of someone who has. “It feels incredibly detailed through the wheel” is easy to write and impossible to check. Once you notice how much of it reads that way, it is hard to trust any of it.
We decided the fix was not to pretend harder. It was to say plainly what each review is built on.
Two kinds of review, always labelled
Every review on this site carries a label at the top:
Spec analysis – we have not handled this product. The review is built from manufacturer specifications, technical documentation, firmware and compatibility records, and filtered reports from people who own it. We say how many user reports went into the consensus score.
Hands-on tested – we have used this product ourselves, and the review says how long for.
Most reviews here start in the first category. Some move to the second over time. You will always know which one you are reading, and a spec analysis review will never use the language of someone who has held the thing.
What we actually do well
Specifications, cross-referenced. Torque figures next to slew rate next to price, across every base in a class, on a like-for-like basis.
Compatibility, checked properly. Which wheel mounts to which base, which base works on which console, what breaks after a firmware update. This is where most buyers get burned, and it is verifiable without owning anything.
Consensus, counted rather than guessed. When we say owners report a problem, we tell you how many owners and where we looked.
Support and warranty, which almost nobody scores. Warranty length, spare parts availability, how long RMAs actually take. If you are spending $1,000, this matters more than the last 2 Nm.
What we will not do
We will not accept payment for a score, a placement, or a favourable line. Manufacturers can send us products; they cannot buy a number.
We will not invent a reviewer. There is no fictional 10-year veteran on the masthead here.
We will not avoid saying “don’t buy this”. A review site that only recommends things is a catalogue.
